Three Ways To Feel Happier

Give people a high five just for getting out of bed in the morning, being a person is hard sometimes.

While it is easy to get stuck in negative thought patterns, it is important to remember that there are ways out of this emotional space.  Feelings are just temporary, and the opportunity to change them exists.  Below are just a few suggestions to help you feel better and move forward in a positive way.

When we are feeling upset, we are usually inclined to listen to sad music to reaffirm those negative thoughts.  However, doing just the opposite can be beneficial.  When we fight our instincts and listen to positive and upbeat music, our negative thoughts are pushed out of the way and our mood improves.  The same concept applies when watching funny videos or television shows.  Our brain, simply, can't focus on two things at once, so let your brain pivot to something that makes you feel good.

Self-care is also incredibly important.  Get up at a reasonable time, shower, put on clothes that make you feel good, and do your hair in a way that makes you feel confident.  Call up friends. Exercise. Take care of your body.  When you feel healthy physically, it is easier to feel healthy emotionally.

Create a goal to work towards.  Keep your focus on something positive and attainable.  Sign up for a 5K.  Plan a trip with a friend or family member.  Learn to sew or knit. Do that thing that you have always wanted to do.

Remember what makes you YOU.  What made you happy in the past?  Rediscover those things.  Rediscover you.
